The impact of the woman on the evolution of a society is profoundly significant. My sculptural work deals with this awesome responsibility. The mission of the mothers in my "Army of Mothers" is non-violent and requires the teaching of peace through forgiveness. Other important concerns in my sculptural work are time in its flight, generations and memory. The organic form of the female is paramount as the keeper of life. My two-dimensional work is less straightforward. It is an attempt to capture that which is compelling to me. I employ the use of layers to create the depth that is more easily apparent in three-dimensions. Simply put, the work is a painterly embodiment of synchronized form and color that is a search for stability. The viewer is invited to perceive the work through their own personal realm of symbols and experiences. The ceramic work is done for the love of the clay and the constant need to explore new processes and forms. The work can be seen at my studio in Fish Creek, WI (June through September), at several galleries in Texas or on my web site. Patty Degenhardt |
